Two area teams will head to Lincoln for this week’s boys state basketball tournament.

The Lady Longhorn basketball team has not been to the district finals since the year 2000, but this year’s team broke the drought when they advanced to the C1-6 district title game Friday night. While Chase County took the short end of the 28-55 game to Mitchell, their head coach, Mark Bottom, said it was a great season, one that heightened the quality of girls’ basketball at Chase County Schools. Above left, Taylin McNair, one of nine seniors on the 2016-17 squad, accepted the district runner-up plaque, then joined her team on the floor. Teammates pictured, from left, include Mallie McNair, Molly Luhrs, Ragan Nickless, Kadyn Milner and Andrea Page. See more on the district title game in this week’s sports section. Even though it was the first time in 17 years the Lady Longhorns played in a district title game, Friday night’s loss didn’t make it any easier for Chase County.
