Rick Jones - June 27, 2013
Rick Jones was born on Feb. 6, 1950 at Grant, Neb. He was the second of three children born to Owen and Lillian Larsen Jones.
Rick grew up northeast of Grant where he attended country school. He later attended Perkins County High School in Grant where he graduated in 1968.
After graduation he worked for Dr. Les Potts on his farm and did upholstery work with his mother’s drapery business.
Rick moved to Redondo Beach, Calif., in the late 1970s and lived with a friend from Grant, Randy Curtis. After a year in Redondo Beach he moved to Wrightwood, Calif., where he started a business selling and constructing log cabin homes. It was during this time that he met Lola Boldt and they were married in Las Vegas, Nev., on March 6, 1981.
The family moved back to Madrid, Neb. in 1989 where Rick resumed his upholstery work. They moved to Enders, Neb. in 2005 and Rick built a home near Enders which they moved into in 2007. Rick suffered a heart attack in 2006 and along with lung problems, his health suffered for the last seven years of his life.
They moved to Sandpoint, Idaho the last week in May of this year. He enjoyed his three weeks there and died at his home outside of Sandpoint on Monday, June 17, 2013. He had reached the age of 63.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Lola; two daughters, Olena and her husband, Ryan Martin, of Lincoln, Neb. and Desiree and her husband, Shaun Poppe, of Ogallala, Neb.; one son, Jake Jones of Sandpoint; five grandchildren, Brock and Bronson Poppe and Gabriel, Charlie, and Nyah Martin; his sister, Anita Allen of Alliance, Neb. and his brother, Doug Jones of Cambridge, Neb., and their families; many other relatives and friends.
Cremation was chosen.
A Celebration of Life service was held on June 24 at the Grant United Methodist Church with Pastors Nora Mendyk and Matt Maxwell officiating.
