Members of the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department are working on plans for another big celebration of the Fourth of July.
The IVFD again will be shooting off fireworks, and have set Friday, July 3, at 9:15 p.m. for the display at the Chase County Fairgrounds.
Then on Saturday, July 4, another Fun Day will be celebrated at the fairgrounds with water fights, a dunk tank, free hot dogs, fire and ambulance equipment displays and the ever-popular mud volleyball tournament.
Registrations are now being taken for the mud volleyball tourney, which is coordinated by the Imperial FFA chapter.
Four-person teams, with two guys and two girls, will compete for prizes. Teams can register now by contacting FFA Advisor Jason Speck at 882-5526 or 882-6943.
Teams can also register the day of the tourney on July 4, but registrations will close with 16 teams. Tourney participants must be no younger than seventh grade (2009-2010 school year).
Fireworks fund drive
Donations to the fireworks show reached $1,000 this week, according to Russ Pankonin, who is chairing the drive.
The city of Imperial budgeted $1,500 for fireworks this year, with the additional $4,000 for the show to be raised through donations.
Individuals, businesses and organizations wishing to donate to the show can direct their contributions to The Imperial Republican or city offices.
