|Deadline is April 30 for ball team sign-up|
Little League boys’, girls’ teams could use more players age 9 to 11
April 30 arrives today (Thursday), which is the deadline for baseball and softball player sign-up for city of Imperial teams.
It is especially important for boys and girls who play Little League (age 9-11) to get signed up by today (Thursday) because players will be “drafted” and assigned to respective teams this coming week, according to Summer Recreation Director Darrin Schultz.
Some additional Little League players, on both the boys’ and girls’ teams, would mean that both those leagues could play in Imperial this summer.
For the past couple of years, the Little League-aged girls’ teams have traveled to out-of-town games because there were not enough teams to play in town.
There has been some interest in keeping the girls’ teams in town this summer, but to do that, more players need to sign up, Schultz noted.
Schultz encourages parents of the Little League-aged players to make sure to get their children signed up by Thursday.
The city’s T-ball program for boys and girls (age 6 to 8) will also be forming soon. Those youngsters also need to sign up.
There is also still time for players beyond Little League age to get signed up for the older baseball and softball teams, as well.
Registration forms are available at the school or city office, and should be returned by April 30.
Members of the Imperial Baseball/Softball Association are working closely with Schultz in organizing the teams.
Families who may not be able to afford the participation fee for their child can apply for a waiver of that fee. Check at the city office for more details.
