Chase County high school students will be attending prom here several weeks earlier than previous years.
Prom, one of spring’s biggest events at many high schools, will be held in Imperial this month on Saturday, March 21. Last year, the CCS prom took place on April 26.
Along with a new date, there are also new junior class sponsors this year, Lorain Vires and Sandy O’Neil. Vires said last Friday the sponsors and junior class prom committee members are working hard to get the plans in place.
Supt. Matt Fisher said it was an administrative decision to move the prom this year a few weeks earlier.
“The biggest thing is that there are so many events at the end of the year, with track meets and  graduation activities,” Fisher said.
Moving it earlier, he said, gives those planning the prom and attending it time to enjoy the event.
Fisher also said that it is the general trend in schools now to be moving their proms to late March and early April.
Prom invitations went out last week to members of the junior and senior class, faculty, school board members and other special guests.
The invitees were informed of this year’s “Escape to the Orient” theme, Vires noted.
This year’s prom dinner will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church with a catered meal by Jack’s Country Cookin’.
The dance will follow in the gym at the Wellington School, as in the past.
A small junior class this year, just 24 students, also means a smaller amount of money for prom expenses. But, that’s being helped by donations from junior parents, Vires noted.
Post prom activities
Students attending Chase County’s prom this year will also be able to again take in after-prom events being planned by junior and senior parents.
Casino-type games played with “funny money” will be available with prizes and an auction afterwards.
Any individuals or organizations who have not been contacted and would like to donate can send their contribution to Denise Carter, Box 1151, Imperial.
