Christmas came a little early this past year for Linda Moses of Imperial. In mid-December she purchased a Holiday Grab Bag ticket from the Nebraska Lottery, scratched the ticket and revealed three matching dollar amounts for a $40,000 prize.
“I was pretty stunned,” she said recently. “I had to look at it 20 times.”
Moses purchased her winning ticket at Southside Liquor. She said she usually buys four or five tickets per week in the $2 or $5 range.
She’s won “little amounts, never anything like that, just enough to keep you going,” in the past.
Moses and husband Richard claimed her prize Jan. 2 in Lincoln.
The money went directly into the bank, Moses said. “Right now I’m just going to save it.”
Holiday Grab Bag is a $5 scratch game from the Nebraska Lottery that offers players the chance to win $815,000 in cash prizes from $5 to $40,000.
The odds of winning $40,000 are one in 120,000, while the overall odds of winning any prize are one in 3.24.
The mission of the Nebraska Lottery is to generate proceeds for good causes while providing quality entertainment options to Nebraskans.
Over $333 million has been raised for the Lottery’s beneficiary funds since it began in 1993.
