Following delays, repairs, a sanitary issue and frustration, the Imperial pool seems to be open for the season now.
The pool reopened July 6 and has been serving about 100 swimmers per day, according to pool staff. On Tuesday, 130 signed in.
Manager Melissa Owens said things have been going “pretty well” since last week.
The year-old pool wasn’t able to be opened at the beginning of the swimming season, due to leaking pipes. The original contractor, Simon Contractors of North Platte, was called back to pinpoint the leaks. After a section of the pool bottom was torn up, a temporary flex hose was attached near the surge tank, where the leak was discovered in a joint, City Clerk/Administrator Jo Leyland said.
Then, a portion of the pool bottom needed to be poured, set and painted.
The pool was open for less than two hours on its first day, July 3, before human waste was discovered on the deck and in the pool. It had to be closed again.
