Sept. 13 is deadline to apply for livestock payments PDF Print E-mail

Time is running out for livestock producers who suffered livestock death losses due to eligible disaster events in 2008 and before July 13, 2009, to apply for the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP), according to local Farm Service Agency CED Teri Moss.
Compensation for the deaths of eligible livestock under the new LIP provisions is provided by the 2008 Farm Bill but applications must be completed at the local Farm Service Agency (FSA) no later than Sept. 13.
Producers who have suffered a financial loss due to the death of livestock from qualifying weather events such as blizzards and extreme heat need to contact the FSA office and set up an appointment soon. There is currently no provision for late filed applications.
All death losses must be supported by proof of inventory and proof of death. Producers need to contact the FSA office for more information on what types of documents are acceptable and set up an appointment to apply for compensation.
Producers can reach the FSA office at 308-882-4263, Ext. 2. Any 2009 livestock deaths suffered due to eligible disaster events after July 13, must be reported to the FSA Office within 30 days of the death loss.
