Barbara Mae Clark - June 20, 2013
Barbara Mae (Kelley) Clark, 84, longtime resident of Champion, passed away Saturday morning, June 15, 2013 at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial.
She was born Sept. 19, 1928 to Harold and Cora (Daschofsky) Kelley at Lamar, Neb. in the living quarters of Kelley’s Grocery Store.
When Barbara was four years old, her family moved to Champion where she attended school at District 12 until the 5th grade.
Her family moved to the Shallenburger Ranch and she graduated eighth grade from Sunny Morn Grade School District 65. Barbara attended ninth and tenth grade at Champion Alpha Rural High graduating from CCHS as part of the Class of 1945.
She worked for Chase County Welfare for two years after graduation.
Barbara married the love of her life, Lowell Clark on July 5, 1947.
Lowell was in the US Navy at the time and had just returned home from Antarctica with Admiral Richard E. Byrd from Operation High Jump. When he was discharged, they made their home in Champion. To this union a daughter, Peggy Lee (1949); and a son, Jerry Wayne (1951) were born.
Barbara was a homemaker, and she always had a big garden. Additionally, she wrote poetry and a few songs. One song was sung at the Champion Centennial naming every family in Champion. She loved to crochet and do crafts.
She saw beauty in everything and won the county essay titled, “Chase County—Our Good Home.”
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and brothers; husband, Lowell; and daughter, Peggy.
Additionally, she is survived by son, Jerry, and his wife, Sharon; three grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Following Barbara’s private wishes, no visitation or funeral services will be held.
Inurnment was held Monday morning, June 17, 2013, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.
Liewer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
