Photo ID required to vote

Beginning with the upcoming Primary Election on May 14, voters are now required to present photo ID in order to vote. There are several acceptable forms of ID that may be used.
Voters may present their Nebraska driver’s license or state ID. A Nebraska college ID or a political subdivision (state, county, city, school) ID will also be accepted. A United States Passport, military ID or tribal ID is also valid. Hospital, assisted-living facility or nursing home records are acceptable, as well.
Free state ID is available through the DMV. Certain documents are necessary. A copy of your birth certificate–necessary to get a state ID–is available through the Department of Health and Human Services.
Those who are unable to get ID due to disability or illness or other valid reasons can complete a reasonable impediment certification.
This law was put into effect on June 1st of last year. The upcoming Primary Election is the first election affected by the new requirement.
If, for some reason, you are unable to present a valid form of photo ID a preliminary ballot may be completed. However, the ballot will not be counted until ID is presented.
