DeWayne Fanning - October 25, 2010
DeWayne Harry Fanning passed away on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at his home. He was born March 14, 1951, in Imperial, Neb.
DeWayne returned home from college to help his father and marry his high school sweetheart, Patti O’Neil. They were united in marriage on Dec. 10, 1971, and were never from each other’s side for over 40 years. Together they built their home nine miles north of Wauneta where they have lived since 1976.
From this home grew a family with two children, 25 years as an inspector with the Nebraska Brand Committee and the achievement of his dream as a successful cattle rancher.
DeWayne took an active role with the Catholic Church and as a member of the Knights of Columbus.
DeWayne took time for family, near and far. He had a special liking to teach youngsters how to ride horses. He much enjoyed card club pitch and other hobbies, including raising Texas Longhorn cattle, hunting, fishing, carpentry and putting up hay.
He also was the Spring Creek 4-H Leader for 14 years, giving his joy and knowledge of agriculture to local area youths.
DeWayne was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Stephanie, and father, Frank.
He is survived by his wife, Patti, and son Norm.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Johns Catholic Church in Wauneta, Neb. His final resting place is at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta, Neb.
