Longhorn basketball fans will get an early look at the girls’ and boys’ varsity teams with the addition of two exhibition games on the 2010-11 schedule.
The two varsity squads will play host to Hitchcock County on Tuesday, Nov. 23, with a 5 p.m. girls’ game followed by the boys.
CCS Activities Director Marc Mroczek said the “Jamboree Basketball Games” are being held as a fund-raiser for the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame.
Because of that, no passes (faculty, conference, etc.) will be accepted. All funds received after expenses will be sent into the Hall of Fame.
Gate prices will be the same as regular admission—$5 for adults and $4 for students.
The games will be played with certified officials and each game will be the full 32 minutes, Mroczek said.
Results of the Nov. 23 games will not be counted into the school’s regular season records, nor will they count toward their wild-card-point averages.
“It was totally optional to have the games,” Mroczek said.
“But, a number of the schools in the state are having them.”
Hitchcock County actually contacted CCS to see if they wanted to play the Jamboree games, Mroczek said, and were originally going to be on-the-road for CCS.
However, when it was learned that Chase County will host the D-2 subdistrict basketball tournaments in February, 2011, which includes Hitchcock County, they asked if next week’s games could be in Imperial.
The schools signed a two-year contract for the Jamboree games, so CCS will travel to Hitchcock County next year, Mroczek said.
Regular seasons open Dec. 2
Chase County’s regular seasons will open Thursday, Dec. 2, when the CCS teams host Cozad for boys’ and girls’ JV and varsity games. On Friday, Dec. 3, the teams will be in McCook.
More previews on the Longhorn teams’ 2010-11 seasons will be in the next two issues of this newspaper.
D2 subdistricts here
CCS will host both the boys’ and girls’ Class D2-10 subdistricts in February on two consecutive weeks.
The girls’ tournament will be played Feb. 14, 15 and 17, 2011, while the boys’ is set for Feb. 21, 22 and 24.
Besides Hitchcock County, other teams in that subdistrict include Hayes Center, Paxton, Wallace and Wauneta/Palisade.
