The dream of a bookstore has evolved into The Attic, a fresh flower and gift shop in Champion. Stephanie Taylor’s original idea was a book store in Imperial. Now, she’s selling a variety of items on the main street of Champion.
Most of her gifts are made by crafters in Imperial and Lamar. They include candles, crochet and embroidery items, Christmas ornaments, purses, bookmarks and ceramics.
“It’s a place where local people can keep their product in the community,” she explained.
Products are placed on consignment. “I’m always happy to take new consignments,” Taylor said. “Bring it down and terms are negotiable.”
In addition, she takes floral orders every day for funerals, weddings, office parties, birthdays and more.
Taylor also sells and takes orders for potted plants. “It just sort of came about,” she said of the floral side of the business.
She delivers plants and flowers to the Wauneta-Imperial-Lamar area.
She also sells balloons, gift baskets and candy bouquets.
Halloween gifts are on display now, with Christmas gifts coming in.
“I never know what there’s going to be,” Taylor said of her inventory. “There’s a little bit of everything.”
Taylor opened The Attic Memorial weekend. Her husband Jake’s parents, Ron and Dena Taylor, had offered her two rooms on the south end of their business, The Country House.
The Attic is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The store telephone number is 882-6602. Floral orders may also be placed on her cell phone number of 883-2931.
