Area concerts usher in holiday season
Music lovers get to choose from two concerts offered in the area Saturday night.
Southwest Nebraska Public Power District is presenting its First Annual Customer Appreciation Concert with the sounds of Nebraska Brass in Hayes Center.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. CT at the Hayes Center High School.
Prior to the free concert, business community appreciation and music will be held from 4-6 p.m. CT, followed by a free-will donation meal from 6-7:30 p.m CT. The meal is hosted by Hayes Center High School and local businesses.
Strolling musicians and an appearance by Santa Claus will highlight the meal.
Also on Saturday, 12 musicians from McCook, Danbury, Oberlin, Kan., Omaha and the New York City metropolitan area will combine to present a program of classical and semi-classical selections at McCook’s historic Fox Theatre.
The ticket office will open at 6:30 p.m., an hour before the 7:30 p.m. CT concert. Tickets are also available at Hershberger Music in McCook and The Wauneta Breeze.
Tickets are $25 for preferred seating, $10 for general admission and $5 for those under 12 years of age.
The special night was inspired by former Wauneta resident Craig Kitt, now an organist and pianist from East Hampton, NY. He conceived the concert with Kathie Thomas McBride as a way to pay tribute to his high school piano teacher, Joyce Hershberger of McCook.
The musicians will share their talents on the piano, cello, violin, trumpet, trombone, flugelhorn, alto horn and euphonium.
