Joshua Bruen, who attended both junior high and high school in Imperial, is serving a second tour of duty with the U.S. Marines in Iraq.
Sgt. Bruen left several weeks ago and will serve a year near El Sadad, according to mother Denise Praski of Ogallala.
Sgt. Bruen is a first gunnerman and crew chief on helicopters, Praski said. He joined the Marines following graduation from a Denver high school in 1995.
The Marine served a first tour of duty in Iraq about five years ago, stationed on a ship and transporting men and supplies from the ship to shore.
Sgt. Bruen and wife, Jessica, have two sons, Jake, 5, and Nathaniel, three months. They reside in San Diego. His father is Chester Praski of Ogallala. Grandparents are Bill and June Sharp of Imperial.
