Youths in the Imperial area are invited to two separate basketball contests, scheduled back-to-back this Sunday.
Competition starts at 1 p.m. in the Longhorn gym.
Opening the day’s action is the free throw shooting contest, sponsored by the Knight of Columbus. Boys and girls compete separately in age groups from nine to 14.
Youths will have a chance to shoot 15 free throws. Those with the best marks will earn awards from the organization, and first place winners will advance to district competition.
Immediately following the free throw event, at about 2 p.m., will be the Super Shooters contest, sponsored by the Imperial Jaycees. Also with separate divisions for boys and girls on the local level, youths age six to 13 can compete in Super Shooters.
In this contest, youths will shoot from specific areas of the floor in a one-minute time period. Each youth has two one-minute rounds from which their best score is used. Trophies will be awarded.
First place Super Shooters also have the chance to advance to state competition.
There is no charge to compete, and sign-up forms will be available that day in the gym.
