Firemen take time to be teachers PDF Print E-mail

Each year, the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department (IVFD) observes Fire Prevention Week the first week in October with some of the younger members of our community. Last Friday, they were with the three kindergarten classes at Chase County Schools. The youngsters tried on fire equipment, saw what a fireman looks like when he crawls through a burning home, talked about 911 and got to step inside the city’s new pumper truck. Above, Molly Spicer and Elizabeth Reeves enjoy the fire hats provided by the IVFD. Below left, Ali McNair tries on the self-contained breathing mask. Firefighters Aaron Greene, below right, and Craig Loeffler (hidden) demonstrate how they will look crawling through a burning home so youths won’t be frightened if ever in that situation.
