Another year of news coverage awaits

In last week’s Imperial Republican, the newspaper staff reported on its rankings of top news stories of 2018. It’s an annual task the staff does each January as a new year unfolds.
Whenever the news-ranking effort comes around, it always amazes me what has happened the past year in Imperial and Chase County, and how many important events this newspaper covered. Our staff doesn’t just sit in the office and pull things off the Internet to use in the newspaper!
The staff ranked as its No. 1 story Chase County Community Hospital’s efforts to do something about their aging facilities. While a bond issue on a new structure gained board support early in the year, estimated costs came in higher than anticipated. Late in the year, the board seemed to be leaning more toward an addition to the newer clinic structure and the eventual razing of the 40-year-old hospital building to save dollars.
