Wrestlers second at Medicine Valley Wrestling Invitational

    Chase County wrestling was 10 strong at the Med. Valley tourney on Friday. All 10 wrestlers finished in the top six in their respective weight classes and Chase County finished as runner-up to Mullen.
    Head Coach Matt Vlasin said he told the boys that it was the time of the season to step up and was very pleased with the way they responded.
Team scores
    Mullen 126.5, Chase Co. 105, Hitchcock Co. 84, Southern Valley 73, North Platte J.V. 70.5, Sedgwick Co.-Fleming 69, Perkins Co. 68, Dundy Co.-Stratton 54, Elwood 45, Garden Co. 39, Medicine Valley 30, Sutherland 14, Eustis-Farnam 6, Wauneta Palisade 6 and Southwest 4.
    Chase Co. finished the meet with three first place finishes, one second, one third, one fourth, three fifths and one sixth.
    Caleb Weiss tallied his 100th win in the semi-final match against Shawn Anderson of Southern Valley, pinning Anderson in just 1:49. Weiss went on to take first place in the 145 pound division with a hard fought 2-1 decision over William White of Sutherland.
    Evan Fisher continued his winning ways, winning all four of his matches for a first place finish at 170 pounds. Fisher wrestled a familiar face in the finals. Jack Kennicutt of Perkins Co. put up his best match against Fisher to date but lost a 3-5 decision giving Fisher the championship.
    Eli Hinojosa kept his undefeated season intact by pinning all four wrestlers he faced. Hinojosa is creeping ever closer to setting a new takedown record for Chase County and secured his 100th pin for his career in his third match Friday.
    Caine Haarberg finished second at 182 pounds. In the finals, Haarberg once again faced undefeated Beau Wood of Perkins Co. Haarberg was in the match trailing by only two points, but Wood caught him midway in the third period and got a pin to give Haarberg second place.
    Kenyan Biesecker finished in third after going 2-3 on the day at 126 pounds and Levi Nance took fourth at 160, also going 2-3.
    Jose Medrano, Logan Mendenhall and Mikael Kuhlmann all came home with fifth place finishes at 120, 138 and 152 pounds.
    Jayden German brought home a sixth place finish getting his first win of the season over Marvin McConnell of Sutherland.
