Kreyton Wiese was matched up with Carsen Goes of Southern, in his first match at Omaha. Wiese won the match on points with a 6-4 decision to advance to the quarter-finals. Wiese ended his tournament with a sixth place medal in the 190 pound weight class.

W/P wrestlers both medal at State competition

    Wauneta/Palisade Schools took two wrestlers to Omaha to the State Tournament and brought home two medals.
    David Bryner was the D2-12 District Champion at 175 pounds and Kreyton Wiese was the runner-up at 190.
    Bryner got off to a good start in Omaha, pinning his first opponent, Jacob Jackson of Franklin in just 1:14. Bryner also won his quarter-final match by pin over Rocco Hageman of East Butler, in 5:51, to advance to Friday nights semi-finals.
    In his semi-finals match, Bryner faced Cauy Meyer, (46-2), of Loomis. Meyer got the win by pin over Bryner in 1:23, dropping Bryner into the consolation matches on Saturday.
    In his first match Saturday morning, Bryner faced Jett Vrbka of Shelby-Rising City, losing by pin in 2:41 to drop him into the match for fifth and sixth.
    Jackson Christen of Anselma-Merna got a pin over Bryner in 2:37, giving Bryner a sixth place finish.
    Kreyton Wiese faced Carsen Goes of Southern in the first round and took a 6-4 decision win to advance to the quarter-finals. In Wiese’s second match, Cope Smith of Amherst got a pin over Wiese late in the third period with just 27 seconds left in the match.
    That loss dropped Wiese into the consolation bracket against Carson Tomasek of Stanton. Wiese bounced back with a pin over Tomasek in 2:46, advancing Wiese to the heartbreak round on Friday night. If you win the match on Friday night, you lock in a medal, but if you lose you go home empty handed.
    Wiese wrestled Josh Spray of Sandy Creek and showed that he was determined to go home with some hardware. Wiese won the match with a 21-4 Tech-fall victory to advance to the medal round.
    On Saturday, Wiese lost a heartbreaking 2-4 decision to Kason Larson of Burwell to drop into the match for fifth and sixth. For the second time in the tournament, Wiese came up against Cope Smith of Amherst. Smith took the win with a pin in 1:47, giving Wiese the sixth place finish.
    In another match at the State Tournament, Bobby Chism and Lucas Linner faced off. Chism was able to secure a win by major-decision over Linner, 25-11.
    As a team, the Broncos finished in 31st place out of the 76 class D teams represented at the tournament. Plainview was the Class D winner, finishing with 100 points.
