WP looking for wins as season winds down

Wauneta-Palisade’s run in the boys’ RPAC tournament ended Jan. 27 with a loss to Maywood/Hayes Center.
WP competed well in the first quarter. Behind baskets from Garrett Hanna, Ruel Malcolm and Michael Duvel, the Broncos trailed 7-9 at the end of the first quarter.
Hanna hit his second three pointer of the game in the second quarter and Braxton McKinney made a free throw and a field goal. Unable to stop the Wolves’ offense, WP trailed 13-29 at halftime.
The Broncos had a strong second half. McKinney made four of four free throws and Grant Walker nailed both of his attempts in the third quarter. McKinney made three field goals and Kyle Jutten added another to help the Broncos keep pace with the Wolves.
WP outscored MHC 17-11 in the fourth quarter of the 44-55 loss.
Jacksen Littrel came off the bench to score five points. McKinney and Walker made three pointers, while Hanna and Laiden Lawler connected on two point field goals.
McKinney led WP with 16 points. Hanna chipped in eight.
Up next
WP (3-14) will travel to 9-6 Medicine Valley Thursday then host 4-11 Sutherland Friday. The Broncos’ remaining schedule features Rawlins County, Kansas (3-8) Feb. 9 then a rematch with MHC (13-6) Feb. 12. The regular season will end Feb. 19 at 15-2 Mullen.
