W/P basketball season winding down

    The Broncos played games Thursday and Friday nights, Feb. 5-6. On Thursday, the Broncos hosted Medicine Valley and Friday, they traveled to Sutherland.
    The girls took wins in both contests. It was a pretty one sided game Thursday against the Raiders. After leading by six at the end of the first quarter, the Broncos stretched the lead to 32-19 at the half.
    The Broncos out-scored the Raiders in the third and fourth quarters to take the win, 54-34.
    Friday’s game was a little closer at Sutherland. The Sailors put up a good fight but fell to the Broncos, 30-25. The last game for the Lady Broncos will be against Maywood/Hayes Center.
    Wauneta/Palisade’s girls will be in the D1-1w2 subdistricts starting Feb. 16. The Broncos have a 12-8 record. The three other teams in the D1-12 Subdistrict are Bayard, (8-10), Morrill (15-7), and Sutherland (6-13).
    The boys dropped both games, losing to Medicine Valley, 40-70 and falling to Sutherland 32-47. The boys have two games left before subdistricts, Maywood/Hayes Center and Arthur County.
    The boys subdistricts start on Monday, Feb. 23.
