Wiese brings home fifth for W/P Wrestling

    The Wauneta/Palisade Wrestling Team took two wrestlers to the state meet in Omaha, Feb. 20-22. David Bryner wrestled at 175 and Kreyton Wiese at 190 pounds.
    On Thursday, Wiese, (31-9), won his first match of the tournament by pin, but got pinned in the quarterfinals. That dropped him to the consolation bracket second round Friday morning.
    Wiese pinned Colt Gosnell of Maxwell Friday morning to advance to the heartbreak round Friday night to meet Carsen Goes of Southern. Winner of this match was assured a medal, while the loser would have their tornament come to an end. It only took 1:27 for Wiese to secure some hardware would be coming home with him, winning the match by pin-fall.
    Saturday morning, Wiese lost both matches to finish with a sixth place medal.
    Bryner got off to a great start in his first match, pinning Isaac O’Brien of Ansley-Litchfield in just 1:07. In his second match Thursday morning, Bryner was pinned, dropping him into the second round of consolations Friday morning.
    Just 11 seconds into the third period, Gavin Wortman put an end to Bryner’s Tournament hopes with a pin.
    Both wrestlers had outstanding seasons for the Broncos.
Individual results
    175 David Bryner (45-9): pinned Isaac O’Brien (34-20) Ansley-Litchfield, 1:07, was pinned by Jordan Timmerman (46-8) Guardian Angels CC, 5:01, was pinned by Gavin Wortman (39-17) Randolph, 4:11.
    190 Kreyton Wiese (31-9): pinned Billy Marshall (29-17) Sutton, 4:49, was pinned by Wyatt Stieb (35-7) Arcadia/Loup City, 4:45, pinned Colt Gosnell (41-14) Maxwell, 1:18, pinned Carsen Goes (34-13) Southern, 1:27, was pinned by Cale Buss (47-6) Burwell, 3:38, was pinned by Wyatt Stieb (35-7) Arcadia/Loup City, 2:18 for sixth place.
    As a team, Wauneta/Palisade placed 40th with 17 points, out of the 77 teams represented at the State Tournament.
