Way and May wrestle at Devaney Sports Center

    Sunday, Feb. 16, two local wrestlers had the opportunity to wrestle in the Bob Devaney Sports Center before the Huskers Wrestling Team duelled Indiana.
    Sixth grader Lily Way and third grader Millianna May from Chase County Schools, were part of the District 2 Girls Duel Team that competed for the Nebraska USA Wrestling Duel Championships Sunday.
    Both girls qualified for the duel team in December and competed in the Regional Finals in North Platte, Jan. 26. This team won the Western District Duel Title over the other three western teams in North Platte.
    That earned them a trip to compete against the District 8 team, (Omaha area), who were the eastern regional champs.
    The district duel teams are made up of girls in grades 3-8 at a variety of weights ranging from 55 to 175 pounds.
    District two includes Southwest Nebraska, North Platte, Kearney and the surrounding areas.
    In the duel against District eight, the District two team came up short, giving the Championship to District eight.
    Both girls enjoyed the experience, had a lot of fun competing in Devaney and got to watch the Husker Wrestling Team beat Indiana.
