Two CCS cheerleaders to perform at Spirit Spectacular

Chase County Schools will be sending two of its cheerleaders to Orlando, Florida this month.
Senior Sydnie Allen and sophomore Matalie Wallin were chosen as All-Americans to attend the Spirit Spectacular at Disney World.
The pair will be leaving for Florida this week.
“They have worked individually to raise funds for the trip and have also relied on both family and community support,” cheerleading coach Amanda Kimble said.
Cheer Hawaii
Kimble has also received notice that four CCS cheerleaders have been accepted for CheerHawaii for next summer.
Those include Morayah Cupp, Wallin, Sophie Fiedler and Virginia Kimble.
CheerHawaii focuses on three main areas: building cheer skills and preparing for the college level, growth in leadership and experiencing the Hawaiian culture.
To be selected, cheerleaders must be a sophomore or junior, show “good” basic cheer skills, leadership abilities, a desire to learn and improve, an excellence in academics and have a positive attitude.
The girls had to be nominated for the camp by their coach.
The four that were accepted for CheerHawaii will also be responsible for fundraising for their trip if they choose to take it.
“Fundraising is a huge part of being able to follow through with these opportunities,” Kimble said, “and it certainly couldn’t be achieved without the support and encouragement of family, friends and the amazing community we have.”
Kimble’s coaching career
Kimble was asked to “sponsor” CCS cheerleading the fall of the 2015-16 school year.
“I had no previous experience with cheerleading and had to learn along the way,” she said.
Kimble attributes her success to assistant coach Ayla Smith of Wauneta.
Kimble met Smith through her husband who worked with her at Harchelroad Motors.
“She had been a cheerleader and also had coaching experience so she was a wealth of not only information but inspiration,” Kimble added. “She still volunteers her time as my assistant coach and together we coach some amazing athletes.”
The popularity and opportunities of cheerleading at CCS haven’t always been like it is now.
“Passion and opportunity is the drive behind CCS Cheer,” Kimble said. “If our athletes have a passion, then they should have equal opportunity to demonstrate that passion to our community and abroad and not just at ball games.
“Ayla and I have tried to give them these opportunities,” she added. “It’s up to them to make the effort and step through the door.”
