Three gyms a big plus for youth basketball tourney

Total of 16 teams in grades 4-6 compete

The addition of the new auxiliary gym at Chase County Schools was a big plus for Saturday’s annual youth basketball tournament.
Coordinator Alex McNair said the three gyms helped ease the scheduling as 16 girls’ and boys’ teams in grades 4-6 competed in the Longhorn, Shorthorn and the new complex finished last year.
Besides Imperial, communities represented with teams at the tourney were Perkins County, Wauneta-Palisade and Dundy Co. Stratton.
In all, McNair estimated 175-200 youths were involved in this year’s tournament.
McNair said the tourney couldn’t have been possible without all of the volunteers who help coach, referee, work at the score tables, set up/clean up and provide for and work at the concession stand.
Funds from the tourney are used in several areas, McNair said.
