Three Bronco wrestlers take second at So. Valley

While still early in the season, the Wauneta-Palisade wrestlers showed a lot of improvement at Friday’s Southern Valley Invite, Coach Danny Schluckebier said, which felt good to the coaches and wrestlers.
Hunter Miner advanced to the championship match at 138 pounds after three pins in the first three rounds. Miner was pinned by Sutherland’s Jon Peterka, (7-1) in the finals.
Conner Bryner took second place in the 160 bracket. Bryner blew threw his first four opponents in his pool, but got off to a rough start in the championship match when opponent Jack Sokol of Centura picked Bryner up and slammed him into the mat. Bryner lost by pin.
Derik Kenninicutt was one of two wrestlers at 285 pounds and lost his only match of the day.
Cody Holmes went 2-2 at 195 pounds with two pins en route to a third place finish.
Cole Hamilton won three matches at 220 pounds. Hamilton’s point total, 29, in his third match of the day against Medicine Valley’s Aspen Henderson was the day’s highest. Hamilton finished fourth overall.
Hoyte Holmes and Ethan Carl each earned one win at 170 and 182 pounds, respectively.
Also taking the mat for WP was Tennille Warembourg at 145 pounds and Trey McCrumb at 152.
Up next
    WP traveled to Imperial Tuesday for a triangular with Chase County and Leyton, then will be at a JV meet in McCook today (Thursday).
