Teams headed east for girls’ state tournament

The brackets are set and games begin today (Thursday) for the Nebraska high school girls’ basketball tournament in Lincoln.
Among the teams in Lincoln include two on Chase County’s regular season schedule—Dundy Co. Stratton and Sidney—as well as Maywood/Hayes Center in nearby Hayes County.
That’s in addition to Wahoo, the team that defeated the Lady Longhorns Friday in the district final, deflating hopes for a state tournament berth.
Sidney, who Chase County beat 42-40 in December, is the No. 5 seed in Class B’s tournament. Sidney, 19-5, will meet No. 4 Northwest, 21-5, Thursday morning at the Pinnacle Bank Arena.
In Class D1, Dundy Co. Stratton, the No. 7 seed at 18-6, will play No. 2 seed CWC, 25-1, Thursday afternoon at Lincoln SW. DCS handed Chase County one of its few losses this year.
Also in D1, Maywood/Hayes Center, the No. 4 seed at 23-3, will go up against Archbishop Bergan, 14-9 and the No. 5 seed,  in first round play Thursday morning at Lincoln SW.
Wahoo, who downed Chase County 51-36, is the No. 5 seed in Class C1. They will play No. 4 seed St. Paul Thursday morning at the Devaney Center.
The championship games in all six classes will be broadcast Saturday on NET, starting with the Class D1 finals at 8 a.m. MT.
The brackets for all six classes can be found on the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) website at: nsaahome.org.
