Swim team readies for first meet this weekend

The Imperial Swim Team has a pair of new coaches this year.
Alex Schilke is serving as the head coach, while Tanna Hanna is her “administrative assistant.”
Those interested in being part of the swim team can register on the Imperial Swim Team Facebook page or by calling/texting Schilke at 308-737-7714 or Hanna at 308-883-9077.
Cost to participate on the team is $35 per swimmer.
As of Tuesday, the pool hasn’t opened yet for the season.
The pool has had problems opening by Memorial Day weekend in the past, but it’s oftentimes because of chemical imbalances in the water.
This year, Imperial city office personnel said there are a lot of new lifeguards who have yet to receive training.
“They have to get their license and registration and they aren’t able to get their training before I think June 1,” said Deputy Clerk Tricia Moreno.
Pool manager is Shasta Hilker in her second year, while recently graduated CCS seniors Landis Beverly and Adelaide Maxwell are assistant managers.
The swim team schedule will be:
June 1—Palisade
June 8—Grant
June 15—Atwood
June 22—Imperial
July 6—Qualifying meet, TBD
July 13—State meet in Lexington
