Sunday is Torch Run time in Chase County

Chase County will be the site for Nebraska’s annual Cornhusker Games Torch Run this Sunday, which due to COVID-19, has a different format.
Seven runners are signed up to run at least a mile in the county. Runners in Dundy and Perkins counties are also scheduled to put in miles on Sunday.
The Torch Run, typically run on a physical route through dozens of communities across Nebraska, is the precursor to the Cornhusker State Games, which offers competition in more than 60 sports at some 70 venues in Lincoln, Omaha and surrounding communities.
This year’s virtual format was created in response to directed health measures to stem the spread of COVID-19.
The Torch Run kicked off Monday in the counties of Box Butte, Dawes, Sheridan and Sioux in the panhandle. It concludes June 25.
Runners, who participate free of charge, are required to register, run a minimum of one mile in a safe location in their home county and encouraged to post or email a photo or short video of themselves. They also earn a T-shirt.
Torch Run officials were still hoping to sign up runners in seven Nebraska counties which had no participants yet this week.
Runners interested in participating can access signup details at CornhuskerStateGames.com.
