SPVA golfers battle wind

Wind proved to be the story of the day Friday when SPVA conference golfers converged on Enders Lake Golf Course for the conference tournament.
Longhorns Golf Coach Jeff Gleisberg said the wind definitely affected the golfers as shown by higher than normal scores.
Winds came at a steady force of 20-25 mph throughout the tournament.
Senior Karsen Klooz led the trio of Longhorn golfers with rounds of 42-45 to finish eighth with an 87.
Senior Austin Laird went 53-45 to finish at 98 while freshman Nickolas Rau shot a pair of 66s for a 132.
Kimball’s Dillon Wise claimed medalist honors with a 39 on the front nine and a 41 on the back nine for an even 80.
Wise was joined by teammate Zane Anthony, who finished second with an 81.
Their one-two finish, coupled with an 89 and 94 from their No. 3 and 4 golfers, enabled Kimball to claim the team title with a 344.
Only one stroke separated North Platte St. Pat’s and Perkins County for second and third respectively.
The Longhorns’ next outing will be in Kimball today (Thursday), weather permitting.
They finish the regular season at Bayard on Tuesday, May 7 with the district meet set for May 13 in Cambridge.
