Softball gets first win at Scottsbluff tournament

Last week was packed with games for the Lady Longhorn softball team.
Chase County traveled to Wray, Colorado Sept. 10 for a varsity double header.
“Both were games I thought we should have won,” Head Coach Denise Smith said.
Chase County lost the first game 3-4, and the second loss score was 5-7.
“I didn’t think we did very well at adjusting to the pitcher,” Smith added. “There were some untimely calls that took runs off the board and that hurt.”
In the first game, Morgan Peterson was the leader, offensively, with one hit under her belt and one walk.
Peterson’s hit in that game was a two-run homerun. She also scored on her walk, giving her two runs for the game.
Ashlie Benge scored the third run for the Longhorns, getting on base after a walk.
Defensively for the first game, Peterson did the pitching, collecting nine strikeouts.
The Longhorns only had two errors on the night, “but one misplayed ball or hit can make the difference,” Smith said.
During the second game, Peterson, Benge and Ansley Maronde each recorded two hits.
Peterson ended the game with two runs, and Ryley Vrbas, Maronde and Morayah Cupp each had one run.
Carissa Hill did the pitching for the second game, tallying five strikeouts.
