Short-handed WP wrestlers prepare for RPAC

After having six healthy wrestlers on the mat two weeks ago, the Wauneta-Palisade wrestling team brought five wrestlers to a dual with Chase County Friday and four to the Chase County Invite Saturday.
WP won three of its five matches against the Longhorn at the dual. Tennille Warembourg, Conner Bryner and Cody Holmes all won.
Leyton was supposed to be the third team involved, but only came to Saturday’s invite.
At the invite, Bryner advanced to the finals of 152 pounds, but lost to Garden County’s undefeated Colton Holthus, last year’s state champion, in the finals. Bryner is now 26-9 on the year.
Cole Hamilton won two of his first three matches in the 220 pound bracket, but settled for fourth with a loss in the third place match.
Warembourg picked up a win at 138 pounds.
Trey McCrumb also wrestled for the Broncos both days.
WP will head to Southern Valley for the RPAC meet Friday. The meet will begin at 12 noon MT.
Broncos’ Coach Danny Schluckebier expects Bryner, McCrumb, Warembourg, Holmes, Hamilton, Hunter Miner and Ethan Carl to be ready to go.
The rest of the season will go quickly. WP will be at the Medicine Valley Duals Jan. 28 and Medicine Valley Invite Jan. 29. The postseason begins with the subdistrict meet Feb. 6 at Maxwell and districts will be Feb. 13 at Sutherland.
