Seven Longhorns earn all-district recognition

    Seven members of this year’s Longhorn football team earned post-season honors on the C1-8 all-district football team.
    The Longhorns placed five players on the all-district team and two more received honorable mention.
    Seniors Trevor Peterson, Kobe Clevenger, Bennett Bauerle and Logan Jussel, along with sophomore Ryan Bernhardt earned all-district honors.
    Senior Mikael Kuhlmann and junior Tristan Ferguson received honorable mention.
    Only district champion Ogallala had more all-district selections than the Longhorns.
Pierce headed to finals
    The Longhorns’ opponent in the first round of the C1 playoffs, Pierce, will play for the state championship next week.
    Pierce defeated the Longhorns 55-28 and followed that up with a 49-21 win over Ord to move into the semifinals.
    That matchup included another undefeated team in Adams Central. Pierce dominated that game as well, heading to the finals with a 54-14 win.
    The final will pit undefeated Pierce against 12-0 Wahoo. Pierce entered playoffs as the No. 4 seed while Wahoo came in as the No. 2 seed.
    The game will be played Tuesday morning at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
