Seniors lose close game to Gothenburg; win one on road
A three-run homer by Gothenburg in the seventh erased the 4-2 lead Imperial had in a Saturday afternoon senior Legion battle at Campbell’s Ron Milner field.
Gothenburg hadn’t been able to muster more than the two runs they scored in the fourth until second baseman H. Baker connected on a 0-1 count to give the visitors a 5-4 lead in the seventh.
However, Saturday’s loss was tempered with a big win on Sunday as Imperial took a 10-run-rule win in Broken Bow.
Against Gothenburg, Imperial held onto a 4-2 lead for three innings until the seventh, when the homerun was recorded. Imperial sent four to the plate in their half of the inning, but couldn’t get a run across as the game ended 5-4.
Imperial’s most productive inning offensively was the fourth when all four of their runs were plated. Trevor Peterson and Spady hit a pair of singles in the inning, and the seniors also took advantage of two walks and two Gothenburg errors to advance their runners.
Leading the Imperial batters were T. Peterson, Spady and Bennett Bauerle, each with a single.
Duncan Rector started on the mound for Imperial, surrendering the five Gothenburg runs on five hits, while striking out 10 and walking none.
Austin Laird threw one-third of an inning in relief.
Big win at Broken Bow
