Senior softball wins double header at Oshkosh

Due to COVID-19 and lack of opponents, the senior softball team was unable to have a real season.
But Head Coach Denise Smith was able to arrange for a double header at Oshkosh last week.
“We had to ‘find’ games,” Smith said. “Oshkosh was the only team that could play and they’re done for the season now.”
Oshkosh was going to make a trip to play in Imperial but that has been canceled.
Imperial won the first game 10-5 and won the second 14-6.
Kayla Chavira pitched two innings for Imperial, having 12 at-bats and had four walks and one strikeout.
Jaiden Hill finished the game, pitching three innings, 16 at-bats, one walk and four strikeouts.
Offensively for Imperial, Ella O’Neil had two hits, while Ashlie Benge and Jaiden Hill each had one.
Bringing in runs for Imperial were Ryley Vrbas, Courtney Odens, Benge, Morayah Cupp, Sadie Peterson and O’Neil.
In game two, Chavira and Hill pitched three and two innings respectively.
Chavira had 21 at-bats and allowed three hits and six runs. She had five walks and five strikeouts.
Hill had 11 at-bats and allowed one hit and no runs. She pitched four walks and had five strikeouts.
Peterson had the most hits with three, and she scored one.
Odens and Chavira each had two hits, with Odens scoring one run.
With it being the “first time out together and only three practices, I’d say things went pretty good,” Smith said.
“It was nice to get an actual game in during the summer,” she added. “Overall I thought they did well and it will get them thinking about the upcoming softball season.”
There were 12 girls who played against Oshkosh and Smith is expecting about 16 for high school softball in the fall.
