Runners heading to districts Thursday

With their last regular meet now in the books, Chase County’s cross country teams now have the C-4 District Meet in their sights.
The state-qualifying district meet is set for today (Thursday) at Ogallala’s Crandell Creek Golf Course.
The Ogallala course will also be hosting the B-4 District Meet on the same day, with the C and B girls’ races first, followed by the boys on this schedule:
    3 p.m. C-4 girls
    3:30 p.m. B-4 girls
    4 p.m. C-4 boys
    4:30 p.m. B-4 boys
Chase County moved up to Class C this year, so will face some tougher competition, Coach Carl Zuege said at the start of the season.
However, not all the teams competing in C-4 this week had the chance to run the course earlier this season as the Longhorns did at the Ogallala Invite last month.
“Having run there before is a nice advantage we haven’t had in the past,” Zuege said.
Forecasts indicate a warm Thursday this week with highs in the low 80s.
Zuege said Chadron is the clear team favorite in the C-4 girls’ race, but believes his team is one of three that will by vying for the other two top three spots, which would qualify them for state.
On the C-4 boys’ side, the field will be loaded, he said.
“It’s the toughest C district in the state and it will be hard,” he said.
However, he believes a couple of his top guys have continued to progress this season and hopes that will pay off this week.
