Runners get look at Class C competition at UNK meet

On Monday, Chase County runners got a taste of what much of the Class C field would like at the state meet.
At the University of Nebraska-Kearney (UNK) meet, the Longhorns ran in a very big field they hadn’t experienced before, said Coach Carl Zuege.
In the boys’ division, 313 runners finished. In the girls’ class, 171 recorded times.
They came from 34 schools with full teams in the boys’ division while 27 had full teams in the girls’ division.
Top finishers for Chase County were Madison Brown, who was 43rd, while Mason Nordhausen was the first Longhorn across for the boys in 71st.
All of Chase County’s runners competed Monday, except Riley Owens from the girls’ team, who is recovering from a foot injury but is hoped to be back, Zuege said.
Teams could run as many athletes as they wished, Zuege said, without varsity or JV designation. Separate boys’ and girls’ races were held for the four A-D classes.
The UNK course is the same one that will be used for the state meet on Oct. 25.
The top finisher in the Class C girls’ division was Regan Hodsden of Mitchell. Mitchell is in the same C4 district as Chase County.
