Ranch rodeo, bronc riding full on first day of registration

Those looking to sign up for the ranch rodeo and bronc riding event for the Chase County Fair are out of luck.
Organizer Chance Skomp opened registration at 8 a.m. on Monday.
“I was full by 9 a.m.,” he said.
The rodeo and bronc riding will be on Tuesday, Aug. 13, this year at the arena at the fairgrounds.
Registered participants will be traveling from as far away as Montana and Idaho, Skomp said.
“They come a ways,” he added. “They’re not afraid to drive for a bronc ride.”
The calcutta will start at 4:30 p.m., where the teams will be auctioned.
“The guys who don’t compete will still get to compete by trying to pick the right team,” Skomp said.
The ranch rodeo will begin at 5 p.m.
Instead of the previously mentioned 20 riders for the bronc portion, only 15 were registered.
“We’re only taking 15,” Skomp said. “We didn’t have enough broncs. All the contractors are running out of horses this year.”
Halfway through the events, Kelsey and Tim Steinkraus will be hosting a nickel scramble for kids.
“We’ll have stuff for everyone from little kids to adults,” Skomp said.
There’s no gate admission for the event, “so come watch, have fun and hang out,” he added.
The winning team and winning bronc rider will receive a belt buckle, donated by Vet Services of Imperial.
There is also a “good money payout” for the team winner, Skomp said.
Other prizes are yet to be determined.
