Press contributes to lopsided wins for Lady Longhorns in openers

Opponents in the first girls’ basketball games of the season last week were kept off balance with Chase County’s strong press.
That’s the assessment from Coach Randy Longoria, whose varsity team notched wins in the season’s openers Thursday and Friday.
The game at Cozad last Thursday ended in a Chase County 59-27 win. Then at home Friday, Chase County handed Wauneta-Palisade a 59-40 loss.
It was good for his team to get their feet, Longoria said.
Their big leads in both outings “allowed us to work on the press we want to employ and work on our rotations, too,” he said.
The film will answer some questions and allow them to correct some of those rotations in their press, he added.
