Peterson, Williams perform well at outdoor track nationals

Two Chase County Schools graduates recently competed at the The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national meet in Gulf Shores, Alabama, which started on May 23.
Josie Peterson
Josie Peterson, a 2017 graduate of CCS, is a sophomore at Hastings College and the daughter of Bruce and Crystal Peterson of Imperial.
Peterson competed in pole vault at nationals.
Peterson tied for 12 place with a vault of 3.5 meters (11’5.75”).
“She didn’t get all-American,” Hastings Track & Field Coach Ryan Mahoney said. “She finished just outside of that, but she did well.”
Mahoney said as a sophomore and her first outdoor nationals meet, Peterson gained some valuable experience.
“She was over 11 feet,” he added. “She wanted to do better but she had good attempts at the height she went out on. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.”
Mahoney added that Peterson has a bright future ahead of her.
Cody Williams
Cody Williams is also a 2017 graduate of CCS.
He is a sophomore at Concordia University and is the son of Angie Williams and AJ Clermont of Imperial and Brian and Leigh Williams of Ogallala.
Williams holds both the boys’ high jump and long jump records at CCS.
Williams competed in three events at nationals: high jump, pole vault and long jump.
In high jump, he tied for 14th place at a height of 2.02 meters (6’7.5”).
He also tied for 14th place in the pole vault with a height of 4.65 meters (15’3”).
In the long jump, Williams tied for 15th place with a jump of 6.94 meters (22’9.25”).
