Trevor Peterson has reached a milestone in high school wrestling.
The Chase County senior earned his 100th career win at the Hi-Line Invitational in Elwood last Friday.
Competing in the 182 lb. weight class, Peterson pinned Overton’s Christian Smith during the semi-finals in 2:46, en route to the first place tournament medal.
Peterson, the lone senior on the 2019-20 roster, is an easy leader to look to for the rest of this year’s team, his coach said.
Coach Matt Vlasin said he’s just one of those athletes he never has to worry about when it comes to pushing himself at practice and outside of it.
“He’s been one of the hardest working kids in the program. He puts in a lot of extra time in the weight room,” Vlasin said.
Peterson enters his senior season coming off a third place state medal last season as a junior at 170 lbs. He was also a state qualifier his freshman year when he wrestled at the 126 lb. division.
“He’s grown a little bit,” Vlasin smiled.
A four-year wrestler, he sat out half of his sophomore season with a broken hand, and was still able to reach the 100-win mark early in his senior year.
As the team enters its second week of action, Peterson has an 8-1 record. He lost a tough match in the finals at Saturday’s Broken Bow Invite to the No. 1 state-ranked 182-pounder, Lathan Duda from Broken Bow.
Vlasin said there’s a good chance the two could meet up again since both teams are in the same C4 district.
“It could also be the state finals match,” he said.
Entering this week’s tournament, Peterson  holds a career record of 104-29.
