It’s quite the atmosphere at Omaha’s CHI Center, complete with smoke and lights when wrestlers are introduced for the championship matches.

Peterson caps wrestling career with silver medal

After earning the bronze medal last year,  Trevor Peterson capped off his high school wrestling career with a second place finish and silver medal at the state wrestling tourney.
The Chase County senior entered Saturday’s Class C 182 lb. championship match after a 3-0 sweep in his Thursday and Friday rounds.
As expected, he met up with top-seeded Lathan Duda of Broken Bow in the finals.
It would be their third match this season, and Duda had won the other two. Just a week earlier at districts, Duda claimed a 4-2 decision.
Coach Matt Vlasin said they felt confident going into the match Saturday afternoon.
Unfortunately, he said, Duda stayed in a defensive mode most of the match, making it hard to score points.
“That’s what he likes to do. When he’s wrestling a kid he knows he’s better than, then he will wrestle,” he said.
Opponents like Peterson send Duda more to a defensive approach, however.
“It’s frustrating when you’re trying to wrestle, but it works for him. He does just enough to get the win,” Vlasin said.
