Pep Rally kicks off winter sports

    Thursday, Dec. 20, CCS held a pep rally for the start of the winter sports season which kicks off on Thursday, Dec. 4.
    Something new this year at the winter pep rally was an Iron Man Volleyball match that pitted the junior boys against the senior boys.
    The two teams played the best two out of three sets to 15 points, with the winner receiving a trophy. In an entertaining match, the junior boys were too much for the seniors, winning in straight sets by scores of 15-11 and 15-10.
    The multicultural club hosted a serving challenge between sets to raise money. Patrons could go down to the floor and serve volleyballs across the net aiming at five hula hoops placed on the opposite side.
    Cost was $2 for one serve and three serves for $5. Out of all the serves, nobody was able to serve a ball into any of the hula hoops.
    After the volleyball game wrapped up, the Head Coaches for wrestling and boys and girls basketball took the floor with there senior athletes and spoke about what their expectations are for this season.
    Head Wrestling Coach, Matt Vlasin was first to speak. He acknowledged that he has a returning State Champion in Hayley Rusher that they are hoping to earn a trip to Omaha for another title. Vlasin is also hopeful to take a few more to the State Tournament in Febr.
    Girls basketball Head Coach Zach Stauffer stated he would like to see a conference championship, host a first round sub-district game and qualify for a State Tournament birth.
    Chris Bartels, Head Boys Basketball Coach, said one of his main goals for the year is to assure that each player on his team grows into a better person by the end of the season, not only in basketball skills, but life in general.
    The winter season will kick off Thursday, Dec. 4. The girls basketball team will travel to Cozad for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off with the Haymakers.
    The boys wrestling team also travels to Oshkosh for a triangular on Dec. 4, starting at 5:30. The boys will wrestle Garden County and Bridgeport.
    Friday Dec. 5, the girls wrestling team will travel to the Southwest Invite. Wrestling begins at 10:00 a.m. Also on Friday, the boys and girls basketball teams will host McCook, with games starting at 4:00 p.m.
