Ogallala, So. Valley runners-up at state boys’ basketball tournament

The Nebraska high school boys’ state basketball tournament took place last week with only immediate family and credentialed media in attendance, due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

On Chase County’s regular schedule, the Ogallala Indians made it to the championship game Saturday, where they faced the undefeated Auburn Bulldogs.

But the Bulldogs got the best of Ogallala, winning 58-34.

Also on the Longhorns’ regular season schedule playing in the state tournament were North Platte St. Pat’s and Southern Valley.

St. Pat’s, with the No. 1 seed, in class D1, beat No. 8 Pleasanton in the first round game, but lost to No. 4 Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (L-C-C) in the semi-final game.

The Irish went up against Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family for the third place title, but lost, 50-36.

Also in class D1 was Southern Valley, who went up against L-C-C in the championship game Saturday. L-C-C won, 76-31.

Ashland-Greenwood, who bested the Longhorns in the C1-5 district final game, fell to Auburn in the first round of the tournament.
