Nine WP wrestlers pick up victories

Wauneta-Palisade wrestlers got their feet wet last week with matches at Maxwell and Elwood.
Six teams were at the Maxwell duals last Thursday. WP tied with Medicine Valley for third, but placed fourth due to a tie breaker.
Conner Bryner and Seth Knotts led WP with 4-1 days.  Cody Holmes and Derik Kennicutt were 3-2. Cole Hamilton, Tennille Warembourg and Angelina Keenan finished 2-3, while Hoyte Holmes was 1-4 and Trey McCrumb 0-5.
Due to the dual format, some wrestlers picked up wins when the opponent forfeited.
This was the first dual for the Broncos in several years.
WP Coach Danny Schluckeibier said the dual was ran well. No spectators were allowed.
The following day WP headed to the Hi-Line Invite at Elwood.
“I think it was a great full blown meet to start off with,” he said, adding that his team’s conditioning is better than it was last year and the meet went well.
“We’re still a young team eager to grow and continue to wrestle.,” Schluckebier said.
Bryner went 4-0 and won the 160 bracket. Hunter Miner finished the day 3-2.
Schluckebier said the wins helped set a competitive tone for all the Broncos.
“The day was harder than we thought it would be,,” he added.
