McNair one of 24 in Coaches Association All-Star Game

Mallie McNair has yet another honor to add to the accolades she’s received while playing basketball at Chase County Schools.

This week, the Nebraska Coaches Association (NCA) announced the 24-player roster for its 41st annual All-Star Girls’ Basketball Game.

McNair is on the list.

The all-star event is set to be played on Monday, July 20, at Lincoln North Star High School. Tip-off is 6 p.m. CT with the boys’ game to follow.

Girls’ Basketball Coach Randy Longoria said McNair’s selection for the game is a huge honor, especially considering she is just one of three players out of 24 from western Nebraska.

“Clearly, her reputation and name as a player has carried far,” he said.

“Coaches are well aware of her well-deserving reputation” as a player, he said.

Longoria said he will be attending the game if it remains scheduled amid the COVID-19 concerns.

According to the Coaches Association press release, the goal is to select players who will represent the best available student-athletes in all parts of the state, as well as representing the sport and themselves in a positive manner.

Selections are made from all classes.

Once evaluations are returned, they are tabulated, and the results are made available to the selection committee, which is made up of member coaches from throughout the state.

McNair will report for a two-day camp on Sunday, July 19. Teams will be split on Red and Blue rosters after that.

Coaches for the NCA girls’ game are:

Red Team—Head Coach Kelly Cooksley, Broken Bow; Asst. Jeff Rump, Lincoln Southwest.

Blue Team—Head Coach Bob Hayes, Ponca; Asst. John O’Connor, Bennington.

McNair completed her senior season at CCS after setting a new career scoring record of 1,341 points.

During the 2019-20 season, she also set the per-game scoring total with 36 points and tied her 3-point season total of 41. As a junior, she set the school’s points scored in a season record at 455.

She finished her senior season with a 17.3 point-per-game average and five rebounds per game.

McNair earns all-state honor

McNair also earned status as a member of the Class C1 all-state second team in the Lincoln Journal Star.

Announcement of the super state and all-state teams by class was made March 28.
