Longhorns take team gold at home meet

    Weather always seems to play some role in the Longhorns’ home invitational held here Tuesday, April 16. This year it was the wind.
    But that didn’t seem to bother the Longhorns as they cruised to another meet title, scoring 232 points to Ogallala’s 152 in second.
    Boys’ Coach Carl Zuege said his kids performed well, despite the wind.
    Senior Scott Wheeler won both the 400 and 800 with times that moved him into the fourth fastest in Class C in the 800 with a 2:04.5 and seventh fastest in the 400 with a 52.35.
    Kadin Vrbas turned in another pair of wins in the 100 and 200. His 11.21 in the 100 moved him into second in Class C and his 23.19 puts him in fifth statewide.
    Bo O’Neil complimented Vrbas in the 100 and 200, finishing third in both.
    Kalen Wallin out-sprinted two others to hit the finish line first in the 1,600. He added a third place finish in the 3,200.
    Logan Jussel won the 110 hurdles and entered ninth on the Class C ladder with his 15.94.
    Zuege said Jussel and his other hurdlers, Evan Fisher and Dylan Dreiling, are performing well.
    Trevor Peterson added a pair of second place finishes in the discus and pole vault with Bennett Bauerle taking second in the triple jump.
    The 4x100 relay team also claimed gold.
