Longhorns tack on two home wins against Haxtun, Hershey
After a tough week during the SPVA tournament, the Longhorns “just needed a win,” Head Coach Chris Bartels said.
“The Haxtun game gave us just that,” he added.
The Longhorns hosted Haxtun, Colorado on Jan. 28, where they came away with an 84-44 victory.
CCS got down early, but Bartels called a timeout to get the Longhorns calmed down.
“We didn’t look back from there,” Bartels said.
“We played well on both ends of the floor, and everyone that suited up got to play,” he added.
“That game was exactly what we needed to get our confidence back before the big game with Hershey,” Bartels said.
Mason Nordhausen was the lead scorer against Haxtun, tallying 24 points on the night.
Bennett Bauerle was close behind, scoring 19.
Also scoring were Kobe Clevenger, Taylor Jablonski, Brandon Mintling, Clay Meeske, Logan Jussel and Jake German.
The Longhorns performed well on defense, the coach said.
There were 29 total rebounds for the team. Bauerle tallied six of those, and Jablonski and Meeske snagged five apiece.
Bauerle and Lempke also came away with four steals each.
