Longhorns seeded No. 5 going into softball districts
After some tough losses against much larger teams, the Longhorn softball team with their 1-22 record will go into the district tournament this week with the No. 5 seed.
Kearney Catholic/Southern Valley
The Longhorns were supposed to travel to Southern Valley for a triangular with Kearney Catholic and Southern Valley on Oct. 1.
Those games were canceled due to weather.
Activities directors from all schools attempted to reschedule, but with the fast-paced nature of the softball schedule, the games won’t be made up.
“They said we could play Wednesday (Oct. 2) or Friday (Oct. 4),” Head Coach Denise Smith said. “But we didn’t want to play on a church night, and then Saturday we had to get up early to go to Chadron.”
That would be too much travel in a 48-hour span, Smith said.
Alliance/Chadron
On Saturday, the team left Imperial at 6:30 a.m. for a triangular against Chadron and Alliance.
The Longhorns lost the first game 6-16 against Chadron.
Chase County was struggling defensively, with the Lady Eagles able to hit the ball successfully against senior pitcher Carissa Hill.
“She was struggling,” Smith said of Hill. After a bobbled pop fly, Hill fell on her previously injured knee. “That didn’t help matters,” Smith added.
